Bush Skills – Training for landholders managing valuable bushland

Assessment Task Over Zoom

30 November 2020

Bush Skills is a new bush regeneration training program offered to landholders with high conservation bushland in the Tweed Shire to empower them to undertake bush regeneration independently and confidently. Landholders have been selected due to the high conservation values of their properties, but also because they have minimal bush regeneration skills.

This pilot program will address identified barriers to effective management by providing skills, plans and information to assist landholders. A training program and resource library will be developed and implemented, along with monitoring and evaluation of trainees’ progress and achievements to ensure the ongoing improved management of bushland.

Cat's claw creeper is a woody vine that can completely smother native vegetation, especially along rivers, killing trees and understorey plants. The large climbing stems can also reach to the top of the forest canopy where, through a combination of weight and shading, they can cause the eventual death of the largest canopy trees.
