Regenerating fire impacted forests for wildlife in the Tweed
Investor: inGrained Foundation ($15,000)
Tweed Landcare Inc and Tweed Valley Wildlife Carers have partnered to deliver these two projects in the 2019 Terragon fire ground.
The aim of these projects is to determine the extent of impact and to support wildlife recovery at Terragon following drought and fire.
Since the intense bushfire swept through several wildlife species previously observed in the area have not yet returned and weeds are outcompeting native regeneration. This project has two parts:
- Research/ mapping to determine the wildlife present (pre & post fire), extent of habitat loss and key areas for on ground activities across the entire Terragon fire ground.
- Relief for wildlife through the installation of nest boxes/ carved hollow logs, planting of food trees and weed control in key areas within the fire ground.
